Jeweller Robbed of Gold, Silver Worth Lakhs in Jaipur Armed Attack
Masked assailants target Jaipur jeweller, flee with 8kg precious metals and cash.
A jeweller in Jaipur fell victim to a brazen armed robbery on Tuesday evening when masked attackers waylaid him on his motorcycle and made off with valuables totaling significant amounts. Shankarlal Sharma, proprietor of Shri Shyam Jewellers located in Nangalnadi main market, was heading home after shutting down his shop for the day when the incident unfolded. The assailants targeted him during this vulnerable commute, suggesting possible advance surveillance of his routine.
The robbers fled the scene with approximately 8 kilograms of precious metals—a combination of gold and silver—along with an undisclosed quantity of cash. Police have registered a case and initiated investigation into the matter. The use of masks by the perpetrators indicates a planned operation rather than a spontaneous crime, pointing toward organized theft targeting high-value merchandise.
Jewellery store robberies have become a recurring concern in Rajasthan's markets, with criminals increasingly targeting business owners during their commute hours. Such incidents highlight vulnerabilities in personal security for merchants dealing in high-value items, particularly during transit between workplace and residence. The timing of the attack—just as the market was closing—suggests the perpetrators had knowledge of the victim's schedule.
Local authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting interrogations to identify the suspects. The incident has triggered concerns among other jewellers in the region about their safety protocols and security measures. Business associations have called for enhanced police presence in commercial areas during peak hours.
