Mumbai Airport T-1 Gets 47% More Check-In Counters
Mumbai Airport's T-1 to undergo massive overhaul. Check-in counters to increase by 47% and security screening lanes by 150%.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's (CSMIA) Terminal-1 (T-1) is set to undergo a comprehensive redevelopment plan. The plan includes a 47% increase in check-in counters, from 74 to 109, and a 150% increase in security screening lanes, from 8 to 20.
The redevelopment plan also includes a 257% increase in contact aircraft stands, expanding from 7 to 25 stands. This will reduce busing to remote bays. Passenger processing capacity will also see upgrades, with traditional boarding gates being replaced by 12 e-Gates.
The construction schedule is phased, starting in late 2026 and completing in December 2030. The initial phase begins with the onboarding of a demolition consultant, followed by the vacating and decommissioning of Security Hold Area 1 and the Baggage Handling Area.
To manage the temporary loss of terminal space, regional aviation capacity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will be balanced alongside the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
The redevelopment comes after nearly a decade of delays, with T-1 struggling under heavy domestic passenger loads. The new T-1 facility is expected to increase annual passenger capacity by 33%, from 15 million to 20 million passengers per annum.
