Army JCO Hurt in Landmine Blast During LoC Patrol in Rajouri
Junior Commissioned Officer injured in explosion during routine Line of Control patrol in Jammu and Kashmir.
A Junior Commissioned Officer suffered injuries after a landmine detonated during a standard security patrol near the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Naib Subedar Hiteshwar Gogoi, serving with the 14 Assam Regiment, was promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment following the blast.
Military officials attributed the explosion to a displaced or unexploded ordnance in the volatile border region. The JCO was conducting routine patrol operations in his designated sector when the device was accidentally triggered, marking another casualty in a series of similar incidents plaguing security forces in the area.
Landmine-related accidents have become a recurring challenge for Army personnel deployed along the LoC, where decades of conflict have left behind dangerous unexploded ordnance scattered across terrain. The challenging geography and persistent security threats make such patrols essential but inherently risky operations.
These incidents highlight the ongoing dangers faced by military personnel stationed in Jammu and Kashmir, despite improved de-escalation efforts. Regular patrol operations remain critical for border security and counter-insurgency efforts, yet they continue to pose serious hazards to soldiers.
The incident adds to concerns about landmine safety in the region, prompting continued focus on detection and clearance operations by specialized military units. Authorities continue to work toward improving safety protocols for personnel operating in high-risk areas along the LoC.
